  2. HELP on using the ARRL's Automated Information Server (info@arrl.org)
  3.  
  4.    INFO is a service of ARRL HQ.  To use it, mail messages to:
  5.  
  6.    info@arrl.org
  7.  
  8. Each line of the message should contain a single command as shown 
  9. below.  You may place as many commands in a message as you want.  
  10. Each file you request will be sent to you in a separate message. 
  11. Only ASCII text files are supported at present.
  12.  
  13. Note to users with FTP capability:  All of these files are also 
  14. available by anonymous ftp to oak.oakland.edu in the 
  15. pub/hamradio/arrl/infoserver area.  Retrieve the file
  16. index.txt in the /league subdirectory for a complete listing of 
  17. available files by directory (with descriptions).
  18.  
  19. QST Files note:  Binary files mentioned in QST that accompany
  20. articles are *NOT* available via the server.  This is an email
  21. service only and cannot send binary files.  HOWEVER, these files
  22. are available from the FTP site mentioned above.  Look for them
  23. in the pub/hamradio/arrl/qst-binaries directory.
  24.  
  25. Valid INFO email commands:
  26.  
  27. help             Sends this help file
  28.  
  29. index            Sends an index of the files available from INFO
  30.  
  31. reply <address>  Sends the response to the specified address. Put this
  32.                  at the BEGINNING of your message if your From: address
  33.                  is not a valid Internet address.
  34.  
  35. send <FILENAME>  Sends "FILENAME" example: send PROSPECT.TXT
  36.  
  37. quit             Terminates the transaction (use this if you have
  38.                  a signature or other text at the end of the message.)
  39.  
  40. Note: your message will *not* be read by a human!  Do not include any
  41. requests or questions except by way of the above commands.  Retrieve
  42. the "USERS.TXT" file for a list of email addresses of ARRL HQ staff.
  43.  
  44. DO *NOT* USE YOUR MAILER'S "REPLY" FUNCTION TO SEND YOUR NEXT REQUEST!
  45. This message is from info-serv@arrl.org.  Generate a new message 
  46. addressed to info@arrl.org instead.  We set it up this way to 
  47. prevent failed mail from looping endlessly, annoying system
  48. administrators.  Mail sent back to info-serv@arrl.org ends up in 
  49. the bit bucket.

  51. Your From: field or Reply-to: field in your header should contain a valid
  52. Internet address, including full domain name.  If your From: field 
  53. does not contain a valid Internet address, the answer will not reach 
  54. you.  However, we have recently added a reply function as a server 
  55. command.  If needed, the REPLY command should be the first command in
  56. your message.

  60. reply mailaddr
  61.  
  62. Where mailaddr is a valid Internet mail address (either user@domain
  63. or bang address accepted.)  An invalid address generates an error.  
  64. A wrong address results in non-delivery of your response.
  65.  
  66. The address given in the reply command is the address to which all
  67. subsequent requests in the message will be sent. 
  68.  
  69. If an error message is generated, it will be sent to the last reply
  70. address given.
  71.
